hosting multiple sites

*newbie warning*

I'm very new to handling more than one website that's hosted. I have my main site at 1and1 which is fine, but I want to host the sites that I design for clients. At the moment I am using my main sites space to save money, and the websites are for friends so I am using them as guinea pigs to help me test.

This is how i'm currently working, which I know is not the way to go but it's cheap and easy at the moment :

mymainsite.com/index
mymainsite.com/clientONEsite/index
mymainsite.com/clientTWOsite/index

I checked out dreamhost.com that was recommended in another thread and it's $9.95 a month for unlimited domain hosting. (£60 a year) So does that mean I can have :

mainsite.com/index
clientONEsite/index
clientTWOsite/index and so on... ?

any help would be appreciated

I think you actually host them like this clientONEsite.mainsite.com

cheers for the reply, i think that makes sense although it's not quite the package I'm looking for in hosting. I'll keep hunting.

It might be better if explain my sites clearer, and exactly what I'm after. I bought thehitandruns.com and that's my main hosted site on 1and1. I designed a few websites for friends and offered to host them on a shoe string.

I purchased thejamesgoreexperience.co.uk and that redirects to

thehitandruns.com/james_gore

which all works fine, but I know i'm going to struggle with google site maps and in general just looks a bit unprofessional, especially when I start dealing with clients.

all i'm after is a host that can hold multiple full websites ie

thehitandruns.com
thehitandruns.com/gigs
thejamesgoreexperience.co.uk
thejamesgoreexperience.co.uk/gigs...and so on.
