Well there is a big debate on whats better and why. As many geeks may say Unix is better some people might say Windows is better, it all depends on what your doing..

Generally it will come down to the way you program. If you are using MS Database Engine, you will need Windows hosting (ASP, etc).
Most OpenSource applications are for UNIX based systems.
