Hello everyone, I haven't posted here since a while back.
My website is: Steven Levitt - Making Magic Magical I am looking for ideas, I think the colours need to be changed as for a magician I think it needs to be more bright and cool! I was thinking the colours along the lines of, black/grey and baby blue sort of colour. Please give feedback for me so I know what to improve! My friend designed the website: www.nicholas-roberts.co.uk Thanks |

The logo works with the current retro color scheme. You may have to change the logo for something different.
Magicians should join bands and photographers in strongly thinking about abandoning the cliche black-dominant color scheme. Yes, black can be done. No, it's not often done well. Try a red-orange based scheme like hue visualab. Try a nice green based site. Try something retro but sophisticated like Lana Landis. |

Thank you, so you all feel that you like the way it is?
Maybe I just need to update my media a bit more. Get more professional photography of me and some film clips from live TV and recorded shows. Then convert it into an 'only magic website', because at the moment it has my performing arts/drama when really it needs to be more focused on my magic. Anymore ideas? I like them so far, thanks for commenting :) |

Looks pretty good mate. The only thing I'd change would be the colours, but that depends from taste to taste. Good job!

I like the modern style, but I would work in the sterotypical magic color scheme of purple and gold. I think if you play with those colors and a modern design it could be pretty cool.

Color scheme is largely a reflection of your act. If you're not a purple and gold kind of guy, then don't use purple and gold. Right now, there isn't anything wrong with the color scheme. What you need to do is figure out a site objective.
It really depends on what the color, layout, logo and so on reflects about the style and atmosphere of the act and the magician's personality. Does the magician have a signature costume or set piece? If so, what color is it? Street magic might work better with a more metro, urban and maybe a little grunge. If your act takes place primarily in western America, perhaps a more western rustic look is best. While a Vegas act might well go with a flashier purple and gold. If you primarily work with a younger audience, a suggestion would be to use brighter colors. A more sophisticated or mature audience will appreciate a more sophisticated color palette. Go with any one opinion -- without considering the actual client and that client's target audience -- and you've just built your site for an audience of one. A magician who works to build a signature act is more likely to want a site that makes them stand out from the crowd. It all depends on who the site is for, and what you're trying to accomplish. And far too many sites have been built for the site designer. When you want to differentiate, see what everyone is doing then do something different. You might choose such a color scheme when you're trying to make a name for yourself and develop a distinctive brand. Whether you're looking at layout, color or anything else, it is really pretty simple. If you don't know what you want to accomplish, every new choice is going to be confusing. If you do have a clear idea of your audience and objective, you're going to be able to make a good design decision. If you're fishing for an opinion to confirm what you've already decided, you'll eventually find it. Ask fifteen people you'll get fifteen opinions ...and you will probably go ahead with what you were going to do anyway. Figure out what you're audience is like and the atmosphere you wish to project for them, and you'll be able to make a design decision. Figure out what you want to accomplish first, then choose a proper color scheme. In other words, Never Get Involved in a Land War in Asia (or Build a Website for No Reason).
