Default A new site and my own online presence

Hi, I've recently started developing do london sport for a client and have also modified my own website. Obviously the London Sport site lacks a lot of content but I am still waiting to receive most of that. As for my own site, I'm not sure about the colours.

If anyone could comment (good or bad!) about those two sites I'd be evry grateful.

Thanks,
Jump

Markup Validation: FAILED 24 Errors

no DocType found?? what is it xhtml, html??? I'd start there.
both sites have problems with layout, padding, margins, etc.
Both look kind of plain... no artistic expression.

Any suggestions as to how to improve the general layout?

you need to get it padded out better.. try doing your markup in some sort of valid xhtml. Right now you have everything overlapping and running into each other.

You might want to start with an image version of the site... draw your site out in PS or Fireworks, get it visually laid out first, then transfer that image into a valid XHTML site and use CSS to style it.

I don't have any overlap looking from my computer (either on IE or Firefox). Any idea how to rectify this?

I don't need sites that are going to win awards for artistic individuality, just functional and pleasant will do me.

I see. Thanks for pointing that out guys. It seems it does on most but mine!

Would the best way to sort this to position each div absolutely within the page?

[Apologies for being a newbie and asking what are probably considered stupid questions]

Ask away that's what we're here for!

I would start at the begining and go through the validation errors, should iron a few things out.

The first one is...

The DOCTYPE Declaration was not recognized or is missing.

This is important, start there
