Grrr! It's things like that which made me resent school so much. Teachers just refuse to accept any reason or logic beyond their initial judgement.
It just makes the students frustrated and does not teach them any valuable lesson (and can make them angry and/or depressed too).

Agreed. 100%. I'm so desensitised by the education system that I feel like getting out of it for good, and getting a job.

More than likely he'd have to. Even if his parents agreed with him and sided with him, it wasn't exactly the part about using firefox that got him the detention, it was the part about going against the teacher's orders.
Teachers refuse to be disobeyed, lest the whole world collapse in on itself. A point of view which angers me no end.
