You can probably do this with JavaScript but I don't know why you would. Whoever designed that site needs to brush up on their usability design skills. You don't change standard browser behaviour 'cos you think it looks cool. Silly.

Though i wouldn't personally make it so difficult to see what you have highlighted, but it's a nice idea to change things to fit a colour scheme. I went through the CSS and the JS for the page but couldn't find what was causing it.

I don't how they're doing it here, there's nothing in the JS or CSS (I just spent far too long looking) but CSS3 to the rescue.

The ::selection pseudo-element courtesy of W3C and at quirksmode.

I managed to figure out what's causing it.

It's the colour. It would seem that if the background colour is similar enough to the blue selection colour, then it switches the white and the blue around.
