Black tint OR Spot colour

I have some Terms & Conditions to place on the reverse of a letterhead. Usually I would print them spot colour Cool Grey 4 or similar, but the print costs are going through the roof these days especially for 5 colour.

Could I run the T&Cs as a tint of black say 70% at 7pt. Would it all still be readable (not that anyone reads the T&Cs) or is it too much of a risk to do?

7pt would be cusp of pushing it- how good are your pressmen- how much faith do you have in them to pull it off?

That said- 70% is a generous tint- if it weren't for a T&C writeup I'd probably go for it with a fair number of printshops. But, T&C has some sticky rules (just off working with a big pharma consortium) and I would just have to force it through to the client. It was only a few years ago that I realized, nothing I do for my major clients is final until Legal has their way with it. Luckily, though- I've never had an issue with getting client approval for what Legal wants done.

If you do it at a screen make sure you output it at 200lpi+
