Default England 0 Spain 1

Quote:
England woefully underperformed to slip to their first home defeat under coach Steve McClaren in an international friendly against Spain at Old Trafford.

Spain were on the back foot at the start of each half, but the visitors survived to take control of the match.

Fernando Morientes blazed over the bar in the first-half, while David Villa's shot was well saved by England debutant Ben Foster just before the hour.

Soon afterwards substitute Andres Iniesta arrowed a shot past Foster.
Should have played Barry from the start at the expense of Lampard. Sorry but balance is needed. On a positive nice to see Woodgate back.

The only positive out of the game is that he should now know that some of these players aren't good enough... Carrick in particular

it's like playing with ten men if you have him in centre midfield. Joey Barton & Kevin Nolan should be in the team before him. Nugent up front would have been better too

From BBC Sport...

Quote:
But poor Shaun Wright-Phillips looked like a man who could be tackled by his own shadow right now.

He was always willing to run with the ball but his lack of match sharpness was brutally obvious, as was his inability to get round Spain's left-back Joan Capdevila, and Aaron Lennon will be welcomed back with open arms.
A little unfair I thought he got stuck in, nothing really ran for him but he gave it some and sometimes that's enough. Carrick and Lampard could learn a thing or two about getting stuck in.

i'd rather have stuck him in now than have dyer up there, that put a lot of pressure on crouch to get goals on his own. and with the ref having a mare he didn't stand a chance.

Don't know why we can't get a manager that will just play a straight 442 with two proper widemen and two out 'n' out strikers. it would make things a lot better

someone needs to sit carrick down and have a chat with him, i cant remember seing him run with the ball at his feet since he left west ham...

it seems people have told him he is a holding midfielder and he has just bought it and stopped playing his game. he used to get up and down the pitch ( like Barton ) and was a top player after lampard did one to chelsea. now he is just living off being at man u and being worth £17 mil (apparently)
