If the problem is that someone is clicking too much on your ads... it's an idea i just thought of but is it possible to modify a google adsense link with javascript or do they protect against that? Because if it's allowed, then you could cause the click to add a cookie or something to that user's browser for an hour or so which would hide or disable the ads from them.
Thoughts?

Cwilk there is no benefit to the end user. The idea behind Googles ban is they can't prove it's not you, the site owner, who clicks their own ads repeatedly. So they ban you. I suppose if you hated a website owner, showing up everyday and clicking their ads is a good way to show it. But that could get your face caved in. So I wouldn't.

It's the age old problem that people think, google ads will make me rich, a few clicks here and there and they won't notice, thus google has to take a very strong stance on it. In all honesty 5 clicks a day on a site the size of Tommylogics is high, so if you start getting 20 clicks when the ads have only been up a week, google knows something is wrong. People think they can make thousands from these ads but their traffic ranking is only somewhere around the 150,000. It won't happen, play by the rules google set and make a little money from your traffic, try and get people to flock in just for the ads and google will have you. There's plenty of advert sellers around to try but don't expect it to make you rich.

There is a small per, click charge made by Google to the advertiser. The benefit of making multiple click-throughs to some people is therefore usually malicious. They are normally some disgruntled person with a grudge against the advertiser or occasionally they are a commercial rival. There have apparently, also been some recorded cases, where the owner of the site which is hosting the ad, has been the culprit. This is because they are also are paid a small amount on a per click basis.

So, what's the best Google adsense alternative? I tried Kontera on one of my sites and it is not as good as one would hope. Nothing seems to be as good as Google. :(

Actually I have not. For some reason the thought hadn't even entered into my mind. I think I applied a long time ago when I first started with Google and I was denied for one reason or another. I'll look into it. Thanks Toon.

It seems I get into a Google trance where I start viewing them as the End All of the internet. Nasty habit. I wonder if that's their marketing strategy. Highly effective. Like a bad breakup. They dump you and you pine after them ever after.

Commission Junction: Not nearly as good in the sense that you don't get paid per clicks.. but you choose which advertisers you want to run. Search through and find the best selling ones and build a rotating ad banner, etc.

You get paid when the person actually clicks the banner & makes a purchase. Less likely to happen, but higher commissions. I can promise that every one of my customers buying a product will do so through my banner ad.

I set one up (I put it buried in the footer of my site).. here's the specs on it:

GoDaddy Commissions:
Quote:
Commission 20.00%
$65.00 USD on Item List: 12 Month Economy Shared Hosting Plans
$105.00 USD on Item List: 12 Month Deluxe, Premium, Dedicated, Virtual Dedicated Hosting Plans
$30.00 USD on Item List: Basic Reseller Plan
$50.00 USD on Item List: Pro Reseller Plans
$70.00 USD on Item List: Super Reseller Plans
35.00% on Item List: SSL Certificates
5.00% on Item List: Domain Name Aftermarket - Expired & Value Priced
1.00% on Item List: Domain Name Aftermarket - Escrow & Transaction Assurance
2.00% on Item List: Domain Name Aftermarket - Premium
$0.00 USD on Item List: Gift Cards
Locking Period - Standard Actions lock on the 10th of the month, unless extended.
