Default keywords

I looked at a site similar to one that I'm designing. I noticed that most of the (meta) keywords are located in the home page. The other pages didn't have many. Is there a reason for this?

You should keep a decent amount on each page relevant to that page. Try not to repeat them. 10 is more than enough.

Seems that I've read somewhere that if you have too many, search engine crawlers will ignore your site. Is this true? Also, why should they not be repeated?

Keyword Meta Data is basically telling the spider what the important parts of the content are. Where people got wrong is they use too many that aren't relevant to the content and they use the same ones on every page. Don't think of it as a trick, this of it as your way of giving the Spider a rough idea what the PAGE is about not the site.

One more question for you. If the same word appears on each page, is it ok (or a good idea) to repeat it in your keywords? For example, a phrase at the top of each page contains the words "anesthesia machines." Could this word be repeated in the meta keywords?

Yes that would be ok, but remember they're not as important as content and H1, H2 etc

Ok...h1, h2, and so on are important. Does "paragraph" matter?
