Yo Yo Effect in Google?

Hi All,

I have an annoying thng going on and I am not sure what's causing it.

My site ranked number 3ish in Google for a year and a half for the search term "website design tunbridge wells". At the beginning of July it dropped about 10 pages. I originally put this down to Google playing about and it then resurfaced to number 3 for about 3 days and then dropped again. This is now repeating and it stays between page 5 and 10 for about 2 weeks before coming back.

The site is Website Design and Website Maintenance Services - Redboat Design - Not sure if I have too many internal links and I do not know of any duplicate content or cannot see any.

Obviously Google may have changed the way they crawl sites and and backlinks. The search term is not particually well searched but it did acccount for some work that I have got over the last year.

Any help on why the Yo Yo effect might be happening would be much appreciated.

How often do you update the content paul?

Mine keeps going up and down. Luckily the lowest I dropped from #1 (for "Design Cleckheaton") was to #3 so it's OK. Just sit it out ;)

Google is always updating their algorithms. stagnant sites will drop, you hiding any html on the main page?

I have been updating the site content probably on a weekly basis although this is minor amends.

The is no hidden text - I did have a pulldown with a list of town locations which I got rid of about a month ago however so it may be this.

The only other thing I can think off is that I bought a page or pagerank10 and have very similar content on it. This was amended about 3 weeks ago so it could be that still in the system?

Glad to know it's not just me although I would not wish this on anyone - It's really killed my enquiries from the net to almost zero...

Looking to do more traditional marketing as my site has not resurfaced since the last post.

It's really deflating when you spend 3 years getting your site up there only for google or something unknown to bring you crashing down again.

One other thing I have considered for the cause is my reseller hosting - I resell hosting to a lot of my clients and being shared thay have the same IP. These sites all link to me to perhaps these are being ignored. I have read a few things about this but I am not 100%.
