I think it depends on the redirect
If you use a meta/javascript redirect google will just index the content on the redirect domain
However if you use a 301 redirect google will follow the redirect and index the content and new domain
Hi
I have a .com and .ca site, the .ca just re-directs to my .com.
My .com is submitted and comes up on a google search.
If I submit a site that is just a redirect site such as my .ca how does this show up on google, will it show up with my .com information?
What if I register a totally different domain name just for SEO such as a descriptive url rather then a company name (example: DVDS-FOR-SALE-CANADA.com rather then CanMovieSource.com) how will that show up?
Is it best just to make a simple HTML page on the redirect domains with meta tags then my logo with a link to my .com/main page? Thats what I think but want some opinions on this.
Thanks,
Matt

I did a 301 for my .ca to direct to my .com
So now google will not list or index my .ca at all? I kind of wanted it listed so people who search "only in Canada" find my site. I googled my site and it is gone from google (the .ca)
Any ideas here?
Thanks,
Matt
If you want both sites indexed, they need to be two site which means not 301ing anything at anything else. 301ing means that Google will drop the redirected URL from the index.
However, if you want two sites you need two lots of content - not the same site on a different TLD. Don't have to be wildly different, just different enough.
But this can work well because you could add a second result such as your .ca domain to a search for your brand. So, you might get a results that includes .com with 1 or 2 page result or some sitelinks plus .ca too - yay.
You do know that you can add a Canadian localisation setting via Webmaster Tools which does just what you want? - People who search "only in Canada" will be more likely to see your page in SERPS with the geo location set in WMT.
But, if really you want a general searcher who is located in Canada sees your site in the normal search, best option is a local TLD like .ca plus localised server.
Now open your wallet and repeat after me "Help Yourself."
I noticed google dropped my .ca. For some reason my .com has not updated the meta title or keyword tags, its been almost a week since I changed them...any idea?
The .ca was submitted after the .com and it had the recent meta tags.
With a 302 google frowns upon that and it will hurt my results right?
Maybe I should just stick with the .ca domain name and have the .com a 301 redirect.
I did go into webmaster tools and set the .com to focus on Canada.
Ill see how it turns out in google search vs the .ca which was on the 1st page for Canadian searches after being online for only a few days.
The problem with having both is there is not much content on the page, and I am basically targeting locals anyways.
Thanks,
Matt
