Default index.html/index.php

currently all my pages end .html but I would like to include some php includes etc, so if i change index.html to index.php do I lose all my crawled inbound links?

if they are linked to your index file. I link to my domain name so if i have to switch something around it doesn't effect my links.

Google "301 redirects". That should transfer all you PR, inbounds etc.

Yep, 301s it is - either META or using IIS or .htaccess. For just that page you could also set your site root default (index) page using .htaccess .

Any change in file extension is an actual change of URL and loses links, PR etc. without a redirect.

301 NO NO NO NO NO NO as Jm might say :D

Add this little baby to your HTaccess and you can run your php files as the normal htm html extension .

AddType application/x-httpd-php .htm .html

Want to see it in action then www.umbrella-consultancy.co.uk is php driven, uses php includes etc but parses as htm

See, sometimes there ARE secrets in SEO :D Oh damnit I just let another bigdeal secret out of the bag LOL

Oh of course, I actually know that method as well. I recommended it to someone the other day. Damn, there's always a simpler way — I just never find it.

Using the HTACCESS parse php as html files allows you to keep the same urls and so will not have any disruption whatsoever to the sea4rch engines.
