I might be wrong here (what do I know?) but just because the site is a PR5 doesn't mean your article will be linked from a PR5 page. You'll only be on the home page for a small period of time. Google might not even crawl that page in the time you're on it?

Lilya, that is correct, but having said that, a higher PR home page will indicate a site that is likely to have better saturation (volume of pages in the google index).
PR really isn't important in the ranking side of things, it is a by product of links and is purely a maths calc. Google uses two elements, importance and relevance. Importance is the Pr and relevance is everything else. There are now over 200 elements that contribute to the ranking algorithm.

I heard that it just always makes me laugh that everything is advertised with it's Pagerank. Surely a great article will get exposure without having to state what PR the site it will be featured on

I use article distribution a lot for clients. If the article is good, then it gets picked up by other sources and used. The problem now is the google duplicate content filter. This has greatly reduced the value of an individual article, but not the system itself.
I would recommend people use ezinearticles.com, & Isnare.com isnare costs $2 or so to submit to, but if accepted, it is broadcasted to 30,000 or so publishers.
