Default Google Backlinks and Yahoo Backlinks

Hi All

Just wondered why Google only shows 5 backlinks to my site and yahoo shows 406?

Google:

link:www.ben-smith.net - Google Search

Yahoo:

Yahoo! Site Explorer

Seems a bit strange, it seems I can never increase my google backlinks?

Thanks

Google are very picky as to what they think are quality backlinks, yahoo will accept anything.

I like that as anybody can add their link to 500+ free web directories but they're not really quality backlinks.

I'd optimize for google everytime.

Does google changes it's algorithm when it comes to checking backlinks? Before my site has hundreds of backlinks and now its only around 50 I just don't understand google sometimes

I would say make sure they're from quality high ranking sites. Generally top 100,000 in Alexa and a PR3+ and you're away, anything less just pointless

The best thing to do work out how much you've earned over 3 months then put some of that aside for 3 months worth of advertising. If you've made £6000 over 3 months you should be putting at least £100 into 3 months advertising. There are 2 main forms of advertising. 1. Is the visual, where you have banners on a site potential clients would use and they click the banner to get to your site. 2. Is inbound text links which will help you rise in the Search engines meaning potential clients can find you better.
