PHP is my main language, so I might be able to help you. Although, every e-commerce solution is a little different. But I'll do my best!

well here is the basic layout of e-commerce:

http://www.tradingeye-demo.com/

and i have to make it look like that ^^^ (image in first post)

Now my understanding is i create the pages in html and create a layout which i then install and use?

I would just load the e-com site into your HTML editor and start tweaking the design. I've used one of those templates before and I can say I'm not a fan of them myself, but they work... Sometimes if you're lucky, they will have a main page and all you have to do is tweak that and you're set.

mambo has an e-com plug-in and it works great.

best of all, it's open source and free

You could probably do a heck of a lot more using SQL and VBNET/CNET. The backend database is practacally infinite, and the programming logic far more intuitive.

Russlock.. you said that before too. I haven't used it.. but you're starting to make me want to try it. I personally sub out almost all of my php, it is too time consuming for me & I can be more effective in other areas.

Maybe you could start a thread on just mambo and give some insight?
