Default Photo of the Month Comp - December '07

OK, so i'm sure you all know the rules by now...

... but I guess for any new members out there

Only one entry each month
Photo must have been taken that month
(please be honest as I have no way of checking)
No Photoshop editing
(true images only please - although watermarks are allowed should the photographer feel it necessary)

A winner will be picked at the end of each month by a highly regarded photography expert, failing that I guess I'll be choosing

Also comments on other people entries are very much welcomed, although please be as constructive as possible.

So one final thing... Go get busy snapping

Just some constructive criticism Drewbie, try and focus your subject a bit more when taking photos such as yours. Being a little bit blury with no sharp focus takes away from what would have been a good shot. Its all about experimenting! Oh and also take several shots of the same thing, playing with your settings so you get varied results and something that may be just a little bit different! Keep at it Drewbie!

Drewbie i like the shot, Maybe try it again focusing on the closet point of the cube, i see the focus is on the cube one back to the left.

Like it though!

It is a nice shot, but try and clear the background as well so that there isn't stuff on the surface in the background

One (cheap/quick) way to get a "clean" background is to use plain pieces of paper (e.g. laser jet) in the deep field. Set the shot up like you have done, clean away the crud and then lay out the paper to give a white background. A white bed sheet will work really well too.

Be careful of flashback / backflash though - the corners of the Rubik's cube have the tell-tale flash marks on them. I do like the depth of field on it.
