Not exactly. IR = Infra Red.
To do some IR photography you need to modify your camera for it.
It needs to be opened up and the filter inside that blocks out IR light is removed and replaced with a filter that blocks out everything BUT IR light, so you're taking a picture of a different spectrum of light which appears white to a camera's CCD.
It's used to great effect especially with green plant life which gives off quite a bit of IR light.
Converting your camera to take IR photographs is not something an amateur should try (i wouldn't even dare to try) since you could break the camera very easily. Services exist online that will do it for you but it's expensive.
