I prefer png... and i disagree, I think that file size does matter, and that just because "most" people have a highspeed connection is not a valid reason to bloat the web.

Arkady, what program do you use to manipulate your png files?
my experience with photographs is that the png's file size will go from say 400kb (jpeg) --> 2000kb (png32). Perhaps he was thinking of png8 compression which is more similar to how Gif's are compressed and usually results in reduced filesize.

Surely png's are used when an image is using minimal colours/grads and is a replacement for a gif not a jpeg?

that is one good place to use it.. but png's are also similar to psd files in that you can save all your layers and such in it.

png's are fat little piggies.
jpg's are sleek race horses. but you can obviously have an overweight horse and a skinny pig.... but that is rare.
