Default How do you do your Black and White shots?

What are peoples tricks?

Desaturate and levels in PS?
Grandient maps?

Id like to hear everyones tricks... or are you just taking b&w shots to begin with?

I generally use the lab colour option and then adjust using levels or curves.

The best way to achieve a well balanced monochromatic image from a colour image in PS is to use the channel mixer. It's sort of what it was designed for.
