Default Sold My Camera

Hi folks..

Ive sold my camera and was thinking of buying a top end SLR Camera.. the D40 anygood as it appears its got manual focus only?

Any feedback on a top end SLR would be great.
Around the £800 - £1000 marker

Being a long-time Canon user, I'd probably opt for an EOS 30D or a second hand 5D if you can find one - very nice :)

The 30D would set you back about £600 in the UK, with a second hand 5D being about £1000 to 1100 - I'd also look into the following ebay store - they're in Hong Kong, so you don't pay the VAT at source, and are extremely reliable (have bought stuff from them before)

I'd also try and get a battery grip - digi SLRs drink power like there's no tomorrow!

...they do Nikon and other brands too ;)

The D40 will hav both manuall and auro focus.

My opinion is that a mid range body and some good lenses will perform so much better than a top end body and one crappy lens. It's all about the glass!!!

good lenses i agree but there dont seem to be a winner for lenses as it gos for what you pay at.. Nikon and Canon seem to be a fav for lesnes but i quite like the look of that new Olympus

well, a 5d would cost you the full £1000 and you would have to pay that again to get 2 worthwhile quality lenses.
A D40 and say a nikkor 18-70 and a 70-300 VR lens would be more in your price range and you would have some quality gear with lenses that cover a nice range.

Just my thoughts.

Agreed - when it comes to lenses, you really do get what you pay for...I'd also look into the Sigma EX series of lenses (come in Canon and Nikon mounts) - they seem to provide a fair ratio of "bang to buck"...

A few years ago, I wouldn't have touched them with a barge pole, but they've really got their act together of late. I recently acquired a 70-200 f2.8 and a 10-20 from that series, and they have been fantastic to use so far.

Might be a good option if you can't stretch to Canon "L" or Nikon "ED" glass...
