also see http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000186.htm about erasing the hard drive and starting fresh

erasing first is better than formating

This is driving me nuts, I've cleaned the computer twice I only have windows xp, firefox and a football game running on the PC and I can be on it for an hour then it just locks up.

Mouse won't move, keyboard doesn't work!

It reminds me of the old power macs that used to do it, when a programme crashed the whole system used to lock up.

Anyone got any ideas? What can it be?

Did you ever get new Display Drivers from the video card's manufacturer?

Did you do ALL of the Windows Updates?

What specifically are you doing as the computer locks up?

What programs do you have running, and how many icons are down in the systray (next to the time) whenever you boot up the PC?

What programs other than Football, Firefox and XP?

is it possible for you to take a screenshot of your desktop and post it here?
