Life's hard but you need to man up; the people I feel sorry for are his wife and his adopted 8 month old daughter. Losing your daughter is bad enough but having to lose your husband as well is unthinkable.
He was in a position where he earned enough money and was of a high enough profile to really make a real difference to other people suffering from the same condition as his daughter. So instead of standing by his family and trying to make something positive out of the death of his daughter he decided to traumatise somebody else by throwing himself in front of their train.
I don't like to speak ill of the dead but this guy really messed up.

I'm with Carl, suicide is so unfair.

I had a mate kill himself—he didn't have to stand at his funeral seeing people in tears, he didn't have to console his mother who was in floods. It's so so selfish and using something like a train is just he cherry on the cake. (My mate actually hung himself though, he didn't use someone/thing else)

He was battling depression for years. Do any of you actually know what that's like? Some people can get over it and deal with it properly, others, such as himself, are unable to and sadly take their own lives.

That's terrible mate, it's really hard when a friend dies isn't it? It knocked me for six.

me too on both points there, except it was a girl and it was pills, and she was my house mate.

re what Ian and Mel are saying, if a person really does feel the need to take their own life for whatever reason then ok, but do not endanger other people in the process.

As flick says, I have no personal issue with suicide or euthanasia in some respects and I agree that using others as a means to do something you clearly arent really capable of doing yourself (i.e. topping yourself) is rather shan.
It would be interesting if they sought another method, if the result was that if they survived, but then had to do a life-sentence in prison for possible manslaughter (i.e. to passengers, driver etc).

is there such a crime as attempted manslaughter?
Subtlety is my middle name... and first and last in case you didn't get the point.

    'attempted' manslaughter?
Isn't that just like saying 'manslaughter manslaughter' ?
