Default When looking for a job...

How far would you look? Normally I just select '30 miles' but I wonder, is a further commute worth it?

Do any of you guys commute at the moment?

I have a car, and Newcastle has good transport links, so I'm wondering if I am limiting my search...

I know people who travel an hour and a half to get to work, it depends how much of a life you want

Think £, career prospects and like Kelly rightly says, a life!

I live about 30mins drive away from my new work (haven't even started yet) but I'm moving out nearer, so it will be like a 5min walk!

Takes me an hour to get to the studio, I'm in Sheffield and work in Rotherham, in a car it would maybe take me longer with traffic but I'm blessed with a great public transport system

certainly look further afield (all interviews are good interviews) and when you are offered a job, take into account whether what they want to pay you covers the extra travelling you will have to do (petrol, train, tram and bus fare)

Hmm, cuz I used to work for HMRC in Washington, which after travelling through the tunnel in peak traffic, took an hour, and its only 15miles away!!
So I suppose which direction, how I would get parked etc would determine.

I always see jobs for in Leeds, and the Yorkshire area, but I wasn't sure if it was worth a salary of say £20k or not :-S

I basically commute going to work. It's an hour trip from home to the office.
Good thing we have a train transport system and that avoids me from cramming on the traffic. That's the ideal I think distance for me to have a life! Don't want to work in an office that is too near on my place. I might get lazy if that's the case! heh

But doesn't want a workplace that is too far also. Like almost 2 hours of trip. yay, no way! even if let's say they'll pay me higher than what i earn right now... but if they'll double what i earn, then that's another story! lol

It takes me about an hour and a quarter to get from Sheffield to Leeds, commuting isn't that bad on a good day but a total pain in the arse on others. Coming home is the big thing, when all you want is to be home and you still face that hour crawl on the motorway.

I wouldn't let my sourness put you off though, I've been doing it for about a year now and really had enough. The place you work will make a difference, the fact this place is boring as heck doesn't help me... sorry everyone, rant over
