The only thing I can think of is that it may be running out of RAM. Do you generally have any other programs open while Photoshop is open? Some programs can put a strain on system resources, even if they're just background programs.

sounds like RAM issues to me aswell... Cs2 ALWAYS crashed when i had 512MB RAm, since uprgrading to 2GB RAM it never crashes (altho now cs3)... also, too may fonts and brushes etc may cuase it too crash on startup, alot of people suggest only loading them when needed.

yeah fonts and ram sounds right. but also try to only keep 2 big programs open at a time. so if you use the whole suite, and are doing something in indesign and illy, then need photoshop, it may be best to close illy first... it may seem to take more time, but then so can a crash (esp if you lose work, sincee only indesign recovered documents (wish illy did))

yep.. Fonts!!! try deactivating a bunch and run PS again. I had a very similar issue.
