Hi guys,

Wasn't sure where to put this, because it really encompasses all the creative industries, rather then just one. So I put it here :P

So... For those who live down-under, or happen to have come just for the event, what did you think of Semi-Permanent08?

Personally, a little disappointed, but it was my first one, so I was expecting a different thing really.

So, what is Semi-Permanent? To put it simply Semi-Permanent is a design event. It consists of a conference and side events which include exhibitions, competitions, workshops and parties. It’s a week long celebration of all things design. Graphic Design, Film, Art, Illustration, Web Design, Photography, Visual Effects, Animation, Graffiti, Motion Graphics, Stop Motion; all these things and more. Semi-Permanent explores the diverse and exciting design world bringing together exceptionally talented artists and designers to speak at the event.

Unfortunately it doesn't come to Melbourne so I can't really comment. I'll have to try and get to one of them next year if I can.

Speaking of design events, all design students (at least those in Melbourne) should go to the AG Ideas conference that's held around this time each year. I went to 4 of them, and they were all fantastic.

well yes it isn't at melbourne yet, however this year they introduced brisbane and i think perth for the first time, so it wouldn't surprise me if it was in melbourne next year or the year after.

That looks very intresting. I would like to join this kind of event someday. Not much events around here in japan.

You definitely should, its worth while to network with other creatives, see what other people are doing, how they approach jobs, etc. Thats what I love about this forum, because it allows you to do that as well.

Yes, though it is definitely an advantage to be able to network with people from your country/city.

But aside from all that, I hoped that the events would teach me something. Semi-permanent, despite being an interesting experience, provided little in the way of this. It was more like the success stories of the speakers.
