Default MP3 Codec *in need*

I'm hoping someone can help me, I downloaded Media (windows) player 9 knowing it would play MP3 files (which it should) well to my surprise it didn't. So does anyone know any good MP3 codecs, I could just install and play my MP3 it's a simple thing that should be simple to get working but in this case it's not.

In WMP9 go to Tools--> Options--> File Types(tab)

Make sure that MP3 is checked off in there.

WMP9 DOES support MP3

Maybe it's a problem with your sound device or drivers, not with the codecs. Do other sounds (wav in particular) work ?

I checked all audio devices, everything is fine. I guess I may have to convert it to WAV, this is very odd.

Odd indeed. It seems to be the codecs. Try with the codec tommy gave you.
