I would find a different way about distributing my work. I certainly wouldn't strike a deal with an agency that netted me 1% of my distributions AND kept all the rights & owned my creative works.

I pay for all software as I don't fancy getting the studio shut down

All of my software is legit !!! Similar reasons... and to make it easier for others to get on board, I am an authorized Adobe Licensing Center and Adobe Reseller.

Are you suggesting that you didn't' pay for yours?

Musicians on average retain about 12 cents per each cd sold. thats roughly... 1.6% of the cd. I definately dont feel bad not purchasing cds. I go to alot of concerts. thats where they make their money, depending on the band, anywhere from 100 dollars a night to 5000 a night. plus they retain all profit from merch, minus production costs. and in this day and age, its better for a band to have their stuff pirated anyway, they gain more listeners who are more likely to buy a ticket or a t shirt.

like I dsaid.. market it differently. A lot of bands are recognizing this and making changes themselves, departing from the labels. Perl Jam and Bare Naked Ladies have had a LOT of success.
