free stock footage?

i wanna try my hand at video editing, like making visuals to go alongside music etc. But i cant find any free stock footage, does anyone know where i can get any.

Already tried i'm afraid. Found out that yeh the footage is royalty free, which is fine if i wanna use it commercially. Only trouble is it aint acually free, costs about $15 or so i think per clip.

Check out http://archive.org. Lots of royalty free clips. Check out the Pelinger Archive in there. Lots of great stuff.

worth keeping an eye on the magazines - often the free cds are crammed with the odd royalty free library or so. images and clips depending on the mag. so its worth looking at them if your not fussy about what you want. Its a fair way to build your own library.

Find out what subjects interests you and shoot your own material. Experiment with a DV camera, import the footage via Final Cut Pro / Adobe Premier and then use After Effects to combine animation or add filters.

Get inspired. Onedotzero is an organization that showcases world talent in motion graphics / film and animation. Have a look further back in history and you'll discover Oskar Fischinger and Len Lye. Our modern equivalent is Takagi Masakatsu.

If you want to VJ and use footage live with music then you are best building up your own library of stock footage. Most VJ's 'borrow' old silent black and white movies, educational films, Manga animation. These guys usually get this footage by ripping DVD's via software or a DV Camera then mixing it up with their own stuff. For VJ'ing you'll need a high-end laptop with Arkaos or Modul8 software running on it.
