did you read the article on Brand New: Opinions on Corporate and Brand Identity Work ? it explains some of the changes in the logo.

I prefer the new one, more bubbliscious, tighter kerning and softer colours, this is now much more grown-up and established and less childish and primary

My two cents worth...

It appears as if the new logo can be reproduced using 4 special colours (PMS) although I'm sure they are running CMYK/web offset 99% of the time.
Also, the lighter tones (from the orig) are now darker making them better for reproduction.
I like the way the star has been retained and this will also aid the logo when it appears very small.

I do prefer the new one, I think the color mesh better together and the star within the "R" makes it cleaner and more...fun, I suppose.

In reference to the Corporate and Brand Identity Work link, the new Wal-Mart logo is horrible. The rest aren't so bad, and a lot of them show great improvement.

the new one is cleaner and more reflects where they are and want to be in the market - to be honest, the first new re-design thats not been shit ina long time....
