Now, don't get me wrong, I do like many of this guy's work, but his winning logo for the colordarcy logosauce competition is striking similar to his entry that won the cogmill competition:

both symbols are circles. both have the same glare half circle. both contain rounded C shapes. both have shadows underneath.

I realize all these things are pretty general "web 2.0" effects, but I just feel like that if I was the 2nd client, I would feel a little cheated that the designer used such similar elements in my design as he just used in someone else's.

maybe i'm reading too much into it. Heck, for that matter, the 2nd client may have even requested it, but ethically speaking, they seem too similar to me. I'm really not trying to criticize the designer nor his design, as I like both. I'm just curious if you guys think it is an "okay" thing to reuse elements from one logo in another so quickly.

I thought that this morning, I guess it's ok as long as the two clients aren't told about it, I guess for the low price paid it wouldn't matter but if I had a client that had just paid $8000 for a company re-brand and they found out it was similar to another I'd just done I'd expect them to hit the roof.

good point. sometimes I forget that we're dealing with a low-paid competition here and not a full fledge client paying for a "real" logo.

I think many people do at the sauce! I'm sure there's people just sit there all day waiting for the latest contest because no designer in the world would do endless revisions for free, a change of font or colour is one thing, but listening to the comments then uploading like 20 revisions is nuts, these people aren't full time designers trust me.
