Default Hugo Boss brand logo...

You must be familiar with this one, is pretty plain looking IMO.

The products are great, so are the ads... but the logo... looks like something you could have made in 5 minutes in Word or something

What do you think? Seems to me like a global brand like this should have something more memorable as a logo, IDK

its not the logo that you have in mind when you think of BOSS.

Its the well known brand and the clothes... BOSS is already well known and doesn`t need a logo that is memorable. the brand BOSS is already in our minds.
Look at SIEMENS. everyone should the the big german company.

This is what they call their logo.
Same here... you know the brand and the goods they produce.

So these big Companys don`t need a logo with an memorable "thing" ;-)

thats what i think.

rgds ;)

Interesting: In your opening line you say
Quote:
"You must be familiar with this one"
and at the end you say

"a global brand like this should have something more memorable as a logo"
Personally I wasn't aware that Hugo Boss have a logo per sey thier brand identity rests in the name and the changing emphasis between the words Hugo and Boss.

Big companies don´t need a logo with a memorable thing?

I just feel that Hugo Boss is trendier than Arial and Times New Roman...

You saying that Coca Cola for example is so well known by now that could turn into:

Coca-Cola

When Coca-Cola switched from using the glass bottle to can, the industry went absolutely crazy. The trades were talking about nothing else for months. Most industry gurus predicted that such major change in brand identity would seriously damage thier market share, it didn't, sales increased in fact. Just as a post script the fashion industry has always been more name-centric and much less reliant on other branding devices.

I understand what you're saying but it is actually a graphic style that can be applied to most things....

But it's not as easy as it looks, firstly selecting the correct style fonts is a must, kerning, letter height in relation to width, even the colours used ad the class element to it.

Uh, I know what it takes to design a logo, HB logo probably took months and months, I just happen to think the final result is pretty plain looking.

A non designer would make all the wrong choices....

Bad font, spacing, sizing, wrong colour blend and you get the idea ^^^^
