I live up to my name

I think you'll find that we're all quite a friendly bunch around here. It does tend to be a bit quiet on a Saturday morning as Arkady has said!

Excellent. Nothing worse than a forum ruined by spammers. :-)

That's good to know. I'll be looking forward to seeing who's around, with the flavour of the forum.

That's actually a much more complicated question than it sounds. I have traveled fairly extensively on business, but the distinction between where I have visited and where I have lived is fraught with perceptual anomalies. For example I once spent a mere fortnight staying in a South African village, but came away feeling as if I had lived there for months. By contrast I did spend several months in a town in northern Spain, but always felt like a visitor.

Ah, I do know what you mean. I worked in India for a week and on one hand it felt like a lifetime. On the other, the week went WHOOSH! Went back for a holiday and was total stranger. Working in a city and being a tourist is two totally different things I guess.

Then, when I lived in France for two years, I'd go over to Spain most weekends (it was only 45 minutes away and the weather was better on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees). And I always felt a stranger. In both places.

I've been coming to Thailand since the early 90's. And like Goldilocks, it seems just right. Although after three years, I still feel like I'm on holiday. But, that's just the way the country is set up. All that smiling. Happy people. Sanook everywhere. Xmas feeling every morning. Yeah, an extended holiday is ok with me.

South Africa - I've never been. I have had the pleasure of Egypt and Kenya though. Just haven't ventured as far down south as South Africa.

Sadly, while there, I was in two places where massacres happened. Luxor, Egypt (soon after). And Eldoret, Kenya (it's happening now).

I've had similarly sad experiences myself. Moscow and Belfast being the most obvious.

It gets to you, doesn't it. Especially when you've stood THERE. Right there. You oogled the lifestyle. You laughed. Lunched. Enjoyed yourself. Those poor people. No different than us.

Hi Toon. Thanks for the welcome. :-)

I've been spending some time going over the blogs attached to this forum. A great idea - attached blogs. And good for me too as searching for design blogs is one of my passion.
