welcome Brendan
Hello to everyone on the forum.
I've just found this place via Google and it's quite exciting to see that there's some sort of design community to exchange ideas and hopefully not feel too isolated!
I am an old (41), unemployed bloke from the North West of England. I've always been interested in Graphic Design, despite working most of my life in IT. I took the plunge a couple of years ago and did a full-time HND in Graphic Design, which I really enjoyed and completed in July 2007.
I'm trying to get my act together and see if I can't find some kind of work out there. Apart from a few days freelance work, I haven't done any paid work and I'm finding it a bit of a struggle to stay positive. The industry seems littered with younger, more talented designers, many of whom also seem to struggle to keep afloat!
On the positive side, I don't regret the course for one second. It was thrill to study layout, typography, semiotics, ideas generation and all the other fantastic stuff we did. I still get that tingle down my spine when I see great design and, if nothing else, that makes it worth keeping on trying.
..and I was trying to keep this short! Sorry if I sound like I'm using this place like some sort of therapy consulation.
Look after yourself.
