Yeah sounds a little familiar in sorts. My intro was similar. The good news is you WILL find work if you are persistent. The design life isn't that glamorous anyway, long hours and little financial reward. Quote:

Welcome. It isn't easy to break into a great job in the graphic design industry. Unfortunately even for as good as some think our company can be, there are always other better designers. The upswing for us is that while we might not be the best, we are very good and affordable and the most important, reliable.
Once you get your foot in the door and start commanding what your talent is, you'll go anywhere you want.
