Default Illustrator CS

Ok, so having bowed to public pressure i have got CS on my laptop and was just wondering if you could help me a little. I'm trying to find out how you can set the position of guides like in Freehand?

I have had a quick look, given up and am currently working in freehand again.
your help with this matter will as always be very much appreciated

Cheers

yeah, but can't you specify a position on the page to get them exactly in the right position??? to set up equal spacings between things and stuff???

You have to draw rules and position them and then convert the rule to a guide. There should be a grid layout as well if you want mm's or 6th and 10ths.

ok, so what is the best way to curve a line?

in freehand you can draw a straight line between the two points then manually drag it to the desired curviture but i can't see anything like that here? Am i just missing it or do you have to use the arc tool? 'cause i can't seem to get that the the right degree of curve...

Cheers

*** EDIT ***

Nevermind, just found the Reshape Tool...

Cheers anyway

Use the Pen tool and hold down shift for equal curves. If you use the point grab arrow you can change curves after you drawn them.
