really good first start... a few suggestions that will push your illustration to the next level:
eyelashes - although they are usually very hard to see in photos, they are one of the most expressive elements of illustration, exaggerate them. Example
line weight and brushes - start experimenting with your lines in weight and brushes. Line weight can focus the eye and provide realistic details. Brushes provide texture and shape for things like hair and tapered lines.
color and contrast - this depends on the final look you're going for, but feel free to make a blonde a brunette, or change the color of the eyes/shirt to make the image more dynamic. Although you are working from a specific photo, these choices are what helps make the illustration yours and allows you to make something mediocre look amazing.

lastly - go look at other illustrators work that you admire and try to replicate certain techniques that you see are effective.
