Can someone explain what this is, what it can do for web development, and if you'll use it?

WordPress is a template based Content Management System used primarily for creating blogs. It operates off of php & MySQL. Although it it usually used for creating blog web sites, a crafty developer can transform it into a full CMS solution for clients, a magazine, etc. It has many plug-ins (modules) available via the Open Source Community to extend its services & possibilities.

I've used it and several members are currently using it. Search the forums for "wordpress"

A vote for Wordpress as a CMS. I have used it for the last few years to create all kinds of sites. There is masses of information all over the web coz it has a big following.

Try it out using it as a blog/news site and create some static pages of content as well. When you are familiar with what it can do, you can dream up all kinds of uses for it's different dynamic features.

Wordpress is not a extendable/complex as some other CMS such as Joomla, but it doesn't take much knowledge to get a free template and create a site in minutes. Then you learn what you could do with it. It also has some good natural SEO characteristics and sites do quite well in search engines - even with no real SEO knowledge.
