We've always charged per project because we can design a high-quality flyer in less than an hour. The client doesn't know how long it takes and we feel like we get more for our money. We charge anywhere from $150.00 to $300.00 for a flyer too. So basically, I'm getting $150.00 per hour minimum.

If you're a very slow designer, you should also charge per project, otherwise the client loses because of you being too slow. They shouldn't have to pay for your shortcomings.

If you quote by the project, but it's a large project, incorporate a per hour rate into your contract if you're having to do more than the client originally asked you to do. This protects your time.

You be the judge, as the prices may vary quite a lot. I noticed that the designers from Asia or India are really low price, as opposed to the North American market.

Hope this helps,
Our company was a member of Elance for a few years, so I don't recommend using it as a platform for what you should charge. We never under quoted and we won lots of projects on Elance.

If you use other countries costs for design as a basis for your own design in the U.S. (or another country), you're doing nothing but harm to yourself as a designer. The Indian market is also catching up because they know they are getting paid too little, so it's turning around for designers who charge what should be getting.

Do you think $140 dollars for the booklet and 80 for the flyer sounds good?

While I wouldn't charge that little, it sounds like a great starting point for you with how new you are to the industry.

$80.00 for a flyer is not bad (one side only), but how big is the booklet? Pages? Size?

Your work is very nice (regardless of being in HS). I don't think you should take less than $250.00 for the brochure.

Let me know how it goes.
