Default Design Fatigue

Ok y'all,

This is a problem I've come across recently. I don't know whether anyone else gets this, but do you ever create a design that your happy with, only to find that after working with it for X amount of hours, that it's lost its appeal? It seems to me that the more you work with that design, the more you begin to question it.

Do any of you get this, and if so what do you do to avoid/counteract this?

In my experience, I spend an hour or two to create a nice design, Later I spend few minutes to create another one which turns out to be much better than one on which I spend so many hours.

I find that if I complete a design, I try to not look at to look at it for say, a week, and then I can decide what needs more work, or if I got it right the first time.
I also ask friends and family (non web, techy, design people) for their opinions to make sure they get it first time :)

Happens all the time. I think it's a case of getting bored of it as opposed to actual dislike.

Default design fatigue

that is a good topic of discussion. Also relating to the topic of fatigue, I would be interested in knowing how designers overcome or handle the anxiety of starting a job you know is going to be complex or has a lot of unknowns; and how designers overcome multiple high priority jobs that are complex.

I often wait to the last possible minute and then pour my mind and heart into the job. "yeah, good times"

pateeg, i totally agree with that. When fatigued I try to do other creative things (e.g. Photography) to occupy my mind, them I return to the task at hand. It works for me!

actually I was joking about waiting to the last minute, such a bad way to go about it. But there have been times when I'm dragging my feet getting an undesirable job started. These are the times that one needs to use some trick... and everyone has a different one.
