Default Font sharpness issues in Ill

Ok this has been frustrating me for some time, so ill ask here.

When typing in Ill. CS3, then "saving for web", creating an image out of my layout the text isnt NEAR as sharp as if i was to actually print the .AI file directly from illustrator.

Am i doing something wrong?

Smaller text isnt very sharp. Example...

How else would you do a similar emailer without using text in the images?
