Default Business Cards?

I was chatting to a friend of mine who runs his own business, and basically Im going to order some business cards, but he reckoned by using "graphic design / graphic designer" sounded too plain jane.

But thats what I am?

He suggested something like "creative design artist" or "creative design consultant"; Im neither a artist or a consultant I would have thought.

What are your thoughts? Should i just stick with "graphic designer" ?

Blue...I think you put what you feel is comfortable to the work you do. On one business card I am 'Publisher' whereas on another, I'm 'Art Director.' I also have had the title 'Graphic Designer' on another one. I honestly feel that some of the newer titles sound like they are far-fetched.

A beauty salon we design the business cards for uses the titles 'Nail Technician' or 'Master Hair Designer' and even 'Master Colorist'....don't some of these titles sound stupid? They do to me.

So go with what feels right for you.

How about communications designer

As communications include print & new media- you have covered all your bases & have a snappy new title too!

The problem with this title is that 'communications' to people in the U.S. means telephones. Telephone companies use that word in their company name fairly often.

So if you aren't located here, that title might work.

Yeah I see your point Cwilk, I just wasnt sure if his point was that it was over-usd and maybe something more modern, but yeah some of the new titles are a bit profound - you should hear some of them from HM Revenue and Customs! lol

I like creative designer.... *scratches head*

But isn't creative implied when you call yourself a designer?

I think 'creative designer' is kind of redundant but sounds better than other titles. Think about 'architectural designer' or 'hair designer.' These titles are used because there are so many different types of designers.

I personally have always wanted to play off of the title 'Attorney at Law' and say 'Designer at Design'. Just thought it would be funny.

Considering I am self-employed, should that not be implemented somehow? e.g. like a Managing Director is of a limited company...
