Hello, I have a question.
What are the reasons of using Title Case capitalization in headings? E.g. Capitalizing First Letter Of Every Word. I don't know the history of how title case capitalization came to be, but it seems that possibly it was a way to make title stand out more when font use was limited (e.g. font size, color, type). Also I am curious if there were any studies on this subject. Which one is easier to read - A line written without title case capitalization or A Line Written With Title Case Capitalization What are your thoughts? |

Actually now I see something in this Wikipedia article that I missed:
"This is an old form of emphasis, similar to the more modern practice of using a larger or boldface font for titles." It seems that web designers, editors use more then one way to emphasis a sentence - both capitalization, font weight, size and even color. That makes it redundant. Another peculiar thing that I read in this article is this: "Examples of global publishers whose English-language house styles prescribe sentence-case titles and headings include the International Organization for Standardization and Wikipedia." - The fact is that Wikipeida does not use this type of capitalization. Even in this same article they write headings like this: "Places and geographic terms". Last edited by infilta; 04-01-2008 at 05:14 PM. |

Well, then we can say that everything is about personal preferences.
And the matter is that even if it is, there should be good or bad reasons to do it or not, as well as for everything else. |
