Default Need Some Advice.

In my web class, it's been said that white text on a black background is hard to read. I can't totally agree with that. I know that black text on white background is easiest to read. What do you guys think? Here are some examples: » 30 Black Websites

Well I used to think that it was fine, hence my Harry Roberts site (should be in the sig below) but I have since realised that it's not all that easy to read. A grey on black should be ok, provided there's enough contrast.

I have read that a light text on a dark background (not white/black, as those are both harsh) is the easiest to read for a long time, hence the reason many people still use a dark background on their UNIX console programs. Not sure how much that applies to web design unless you are a blogger or something, but yeah.

I think it depends upon the situation.

Yes, surely if there is a lot of text black/white is harder to read than white/black. I try to keep most of my website design light in color in general, and if they are not, then at least try to make the content area where the text will appear lighter.

It also depends upon text size. If you are using smaller fonts then black/white isn't so good.

Even i was told the same during my college, but i do not agree. I dont find any difficult in reading lighter text on a darker background.
