Default My job is building me a workstation

I am really fortunate I recently graduated university and after a couple lengthy interviews have landed a great job doing what I love. I just received a call from my boss today saying the company is building me a workstation, both hardware and software. When I asked what the budget would be he said let us worry about that. This is a fortune 100 company so I think I have plenty to work with. It can be windows or mac but he says the mac might have problems with using their networking software.

Anyone have any recommendations? I know a lot of designers are apple zealots but I've always been a windows fan and saw apple's as overpriced and more hype than substance. Maybe someone can prove me wrong.

Maybe instead of being a ***** you could tell me where some of these threads are because I am not seeing them. That or you can keep your mouth shut and let normal people give me advice.

If it could cause issues with the network stick to PC as that's what you know, maybe more reliable if linked to other computers.

mac shouldnt have much issue with networking if their IT knows what he is doing. i would suggest mac to save yourself alot of time on fixing your machine. ive worked for companies using pc and ive done it working for companies using mac, speaking from personal experience, i spent more time doing maintenance on it then designing on it. also remember that macs now are capable of running windows so you get more for your $

I think they both have their good and bad points. I guess it's personal preference. I learned on a mac in college, but now at work I use a PC with Windows Vista. I've heard so many bad things about Vista, but I haven't had any problems yet. True, mac can now run windows, so if you want a mac, and they can afford it, why not? But if PC is what you're use to anyway, I don't see any reason to change.

i want an IBM-compatible version of mac OSX!

if a mac can run windows why the hell cant a pc run OSX!!!

the thing i hate most about apple is their hardware. the software is great but i cant mod it like i want because they fuse their chipsets together. something breaks and you have to replace the whole thing. utter trash!!

with the recent advances in the pc arena macs are no longer technologically superior in monitor display and processing power. hell. they brought in intell and used their crappiest processors and tried to make it seem special.

as far as OS goes though apple kicks microsoft's ass every time.

While this maybe true in a home or small office setting, it seems as though he will be connected to a large scale PC based network. As such he will most likely be running networked Windows software, which a MAC then might not handle as nicely. I know they have parrellels and all those nice things, but still, a PC isn't as bad as everyone thinks it is.
