IE8 can't read tranparencys (I think)
Either get rid of them, flatten them (i think) or send it to a printers who use CS3
We have a big job that needs to go to print.
The artwork is an Illustrator CS3 file, OS is Windows XP.
We have to "Save As" the work as Illustrator 8 EPS, in order for the printer to read the document.
And for some annoying reason, as long as the document has transparency, it wont convert it, it just crashes everytime.
We cannot resize the image as it has to be printed for large windows, I have tried to take out anything unnecessary (swatches, hidden objects etc), and tried to flatten any transparent images where possible, but in some places it is unavoidable.
Any suggestions how to get it to save?
The futhest Ive managed to get is, half way and it asks if its ok to go ahead without flattening the transparency, I click ok, it reaches the end and then says "Cant save the illustration. Could not complete the requested operation"
I cant even export the pieces as images as they are too large for it to do it.
Did you manage to fix it?
This works sometimes...
delete your preferences in Illustrator, relaunch it & try again.
Good luck!
2010 is gonna be a good year... dammit!
Update : Finally got the damned thing printed, can now be seen on the windows of the Empire Theatre in Durham lol
I found that the printer we use, hates any files with transparency, so it was a long and arduous task of trying to convert it to a flat image, without jeapordising the pre-agreed image.
If I see an image of aladdin's lamp again it'll be too soon!
congrats! Printers can be touchy people
i always have problems saving legacy. the files corrupt themselves somehow or my software auto upgrades it right back to it's version just from pc file associations.
i'm alwaysed amazed when others don't have problems like that.
i somehow always screwup burning files to cd too.
little issues like that reinforce my decision to stay web-based.
I suppose its just a case of trail and error and hopefully finding something that works for you; re the cd burning, my god I went through some discs and software before I got exactly what works for me lol
