Nostalgic 50's "what was there way?"

I am looking for something on the colors and shapes that were commonly used during the 50's era. Not specificlly designs done in this time but rather a explination of the shapes and colours used and what were the colors used during this era and the shapes used and why they were used ?

I have searched in my opinion high - & - low and only come across designs from this era nothing for what I'm looking for, so I ask for the help of the people on this forum.

I would go to bookstores (even Chapters might have some) and start there.
You could also try vintage shops & buy a few 50's era magazines & study the ads for the trends of that period

Well I'm looking for something online that can explain, sure I can go to bookstores but from past experiences doing stuff like this I usually have ended up empty handed, asking myself why I went that route.

I'm searching on his flickr gallery but it's alot of german stuff, and I even did a search, nothing american from the era of the 1950's it seems. I will keep looking though just to let you know.
