Logo design help

Hello. I'm designing a logo for a friend of mine. He runs a music store that deals strictly with guitars. For his logo he wants it to be an abstract, non objective logo that has guitar elements in it. I'm at a loss here, I've hit a roadblock. Any help or tips you could offer would be appreciated.

First step to this is PRIMARY RESEARCH - go buy books on guitars, go look at guitars - look at guitar websites - look at picasso, matisse and also Dave Mckean - look at various other instruments of a guitar nature such as Mandarin, Violin, Viola - see how they can inform your overall logo - sketch out your ideas on paper first, you might not like any of the logo's you come up with on paper, but maybe there's elements of each logo you can put together to make the perfect one.

Look at other abstract artists - particular abstract artists who have done work for CD covrs (for example the coldplay one with the head made out of a graphics net).

Doing a logo that has to incorporate a guitar is pretty straight forward in my experience as there are so many things you can use.

And if it has to be abstract, it is even more easier.

But, whats the name of the music company? That way we can maybe think of a few ideas to help you along the way :)

Thanks for the quick reply guys :) I know a little about guitars, I played a few years ago. I've sketched a few of my ideas, but so far I'm not seeing any elements that I could put together to form a good logo. Well, I guess I should go try some more sketches. Oh, and the name of the business is "Hosier Dads Music."

i also suggest you write down all of your ideas, i know you have some one usually have.

or pick elements, find pictures or anything that relates to your elements, put the infront of you on your desk or screen and let your mind do the thinking.

a very basic but very effective way to begin a creative process if you're solo.

since i dont know, i dont know what level you feel your at, so sorry if it sounds patronizing.
