What?! that's so rude, you asked for links to websites where you could learn about photoshop and that's what Gav was trying to provide.
you haven't really explained what you're looking for anyway, you have been very vague. the best link i can give you is regarding web design: Web Developer's Handbook | CSS, Web Development, Color Tools, SEO, Usability etc.

forget online tools. those are a dime a dozen and the majority of them aren't all that helpful.
you need to go to school for it if you want to have a future in the carer. tutorials aren't going to teach you color theory, basic layouts principles, proper flow and structure, etc. books are good... but they don't give you much in the way of hands on experience and experimentation. a formal education is best because you get tutorials, books, critiques, networking, advanced theory, basic instruction, best practices, standard pricing, portfolio composition, contract drafting, legal and copyright info, etc. all in one package! if you are truly serious about becoming a graphic designer go to school for it so you can find out which branch you want to work in and specialize with. normally i am a proponent of self education, and i do believe that a motivated designer will always use self education to advance themselves, but the market is already flooded with uncertified and uneducated "designers" who just use boot-leg copies of software and stolen ideas to make a quick buck. a formal education will give you better opportunities for a real career in the field. learn what you can how you can... but for the love of all that's holy don't disgrace my profession by pretending to be a designer when all your doing is defaming the carers public image. sorry for the digressed tirade, but i think i made the point clear that education is invaluable for anyone who wants past the fringe of the design world. there are three tiers to a good designer; Marketing, Tools, and Art. marketing is your boss, you have to have the knowledge to use the tools (be that paint brush, pencils and pens, or computers), and you have to have a strong background in art before any of the really good jobs become available to you. the average requirements for those jobs are a BA/BFA in art or design, 3+ years experience, fluency with various software and programing languages, and anything else you can trow in to make your self a better member of the company be it as a member of a design firm or an in-house designer for a corporation. if you want to peer into the professional world of designers then read some of the posts at A List Apart: A List Apart. that's the world you are wanting to join. welcome aboard! |
