first you should stab the person that told you they work together. one is vector based and the other is not.
if the design you purchased is in a psd, i would work from the psd and cut it up manually for your graphics.

Replacement tool is cack.
Try just using a hue/saturation adjustment layer instead.

Well i stand by my opinion that colour replacement tool is cack.
Maybe your layers have become locked? Or the gradients exist as a layer style or as a vector shape maybe.
